How to Fully Reset doubleTwist on Android 4.4 KitKat with SD Card

Sometimes data corruption or an Android bug can cause doubleTwist Music Player to behave strangely. To start fresh, you can perform the following steps to fully reset doubleTwist Music Player on your device with a SD card running Android 4.4 (KitKat).

Follow these steps to fully reset doubleTwist Music Player on your device.

  1. Uninstall doubleTwist Music Player by going into Android Settings and then into the app management section. Now tap on "Uninstall". Uninstalling will remove podcast subscriptions and reset all settings so you will need to rename your device and pair again if you are using AirSync. Also, due to the changes made in Android 4.4 (KitKat) by Google, files synced by doubleTwist or podcasts downloaded by doubleTwist to the SD card are stored inside of the Music Player app directory. When doubleTwist Music Player is uninstalled, these files will be removed along with the app. You will need to resync all music files previously synced to the SD card.
  2. If internal user storage (not on the SD card) was also used to store music, videos, or podcasts, you will need to use a file manager like ES File Explorer to manually delete them.
  3. Delete the doubleTwist folder using the file manager.
  4. In addition to the doubleTwist folder, you may want to remove any previously synced music, video, and photo files as well as downloaded podcast episodes that are in internal user storage. These files are transferred to the following directories:

    1. Music
    2. Video
    3. Pictures
    4. Podcasts

*** WARNING: You will want to verify that the files being deleted were synced/transferred with doubleTwist Sync or else you may accidentally remove files that you did not want to delete. There is no UNDO feature in the file managers. ***

  5. Please reboot before re-installing doubleTwist Music Player. After installation, doubleTwist Music Player will behave as if it was being installed for the very first time. The library database will be recreated. Please wait at least five minutes for the database to rebuild before trying to use doubleTwist Player if you have a lot of media on your device.

All previously purchased upgrades will automatically be restored. Please see this help page for more information.
